2004 Report: Social Care - The Growing Crisis
In 2004 SCEC surveyed its members to find out what the main issues in recruiting, retaining and developing the social care workforce. This report which was widely distributed and gained considerable press coverage was used to lobby Government and campaign for a better deal for social care workers.
Prominent amongst its findings were:
- Few organisations were achieving full cost recovery on providing services
- Increased costs due to legislation and care standards
- Unfair competition from public sector providers
- High use of agency staff
- Low status of social care
